New Organiser

Dear fellow BITE players,

I'm happy (for myself) to announce that after being the Organiser for BITE for 10 months, I'll be stepping down with effect from 1 October 2010. Yay for me!

Some of you have received invitations to take over my role which I always emphasised that it required great responsibility, integrity, leadership, management skills, passion, etc.... However, all I received are "No. Are you crazy?" and/or "Are you sure you have those characteristics?" where it is usually accompanied with a quirked eyebrow.

But enough of attempting to heap compliments on myself and past Organisers, I have found one very suitable candidate who has kindly agreed to take over this arduous and heavy responsibility. He is none other than our handsome and dedicated ex-Treasurer, Lim Wei Hsiung!

I hope that everyone will give him your support and assistance to ease his transition into his new role. Meanwhile, if you have questions or suggestions, please feel free to talk to me at any BITE sessions or at my email Rubbish1981@gmail.com. I will do my best to exit from my cloud of bliss to listen to you. = )

Yup, and this organiser is looking to retire and enjoy some peace and quiet. Is there anyone interested in the position?
*big suspicious smile*....
But seriously, I'll be stepping down soon and hope that there will be a passionate and enthusiastic volunteer to take over the running of this friendly group of badminton players. Please contact me at the Sunday sessions or at Rubbish1981@gmail.com if you are interested to chat about the position!

Meanwhile, serious business at hand; we are facing a little shortage in court bookers and the current bookers are facing some stress. They have been performing admirably for the past weeks and consistently getting the courts. However, we need to expand the team and would be very grateful if any non-members would like to convert to be a member to help the group out.

In related matters, we are also considering lowering member fees or just booker's fees to $3 dollars per session in an effort to encourage participation (decision yet to be finalised). Being a member confers a sense of ownership and belonging to the group! There will be a feeling that one has a part in the organisation of keeping this weekly love alive! Wait, you don't love badminton?!? What is wrong with you!?! Nevertheless, if not love then at least some passion I hope? Or at the very least, attracted to the idea of financial discounts for members? Contact me if you are interested in either!

To non-participants, thanks to Eric and his dedicated team of court bookers, we have 10 courts that day so it looks like overcrowding will be minimised. Please come on down to play and also to support your favourite teams while resting. (Pom poms and "Name, I love you!" signboards encouraged)

Guys mini BITE Tournament (MBT) 7 Mar' 10

Pairing
The pairing for the teams for the MBT will be as follows (in alphabetical order):

1. Coen & Raymond
2. Diane & Weijin
3. Eric & Han Ming
4. Kaiyu & Supin
5. Leong & Wei Hsiung
6. Ryan & Songhua

Mini-attractive prize ceremony and mini photo taking will take place right after the tournament is concluded. Pairs are encouraged to train and play together to build teamwork and coordination before the MBT. Participants should arrive at 1045am sharp for a briefing on the details of the MBT.

Non-participants
For all non-participants, normal playing sessions will continue as per normal alongside the MBT. However, the MBT will be taking up a portion of the court time so there might be some slight over-crowding on that day. We are attempting to obtain more courts on that day to reduce disruption.

Team changes
Any objections to your teammate may be communicated privately to me. Issues such as "his racket colour clashes with mine, its bad feng shui" or "my teammate breathes too loudly, it disturbs my concentration" may be brought up (but likely ignored). Please note that team changes are discouraged and adjustments will only be made if there are reasonable and valid grounds (i.e. not in the same category of those fictitious examples I have listed).

Due to the Chinese New Year week, we would be postponing the MBT by 1 week. The gals' tournment would be held on 28 Feb and the guys' one would be on 7 Mar.

Mini BITE Tournament (in short, "MBT")

Dear all,

We will be organising a mini BITE tournament among BITE players to be held on the 21st and 28th of February 2010 for the female and male categories respectively with mini-attractive prizes to be won!

Though frankly, this is organised more for the fun of playing badminton than the mini-attractive products. Plus, it adds a dash of excitement and competitiveness to the games. The details for the MBT is as follows:

Criterias to join the MBT

1. Must have played at BITE sessions frequently for the past 4 months. Both members or non-members may join the MBT.
2. For males, there will be a certain level of skill required before one may participate.
   
3. For females, not to worry, Diane Tan and Supin will not be allowed to join the female category and will join the male category instead.
4. Please approach me at BITE sessions or email me at Rubbish1981@gmail.com to register your interest before 7th February 2010. Please note that the last registered person may not get a partner and therefore may not be able to play. Therefore, register early!
   
5. We will pair all the participants so that the MBT will be competitive. The organiser will have the final say in pairing matters.
   

Format of the MBT

1. Doubles only
   
2. Round robin tournament
   
3. Best of 3 sets to win
   
4. Each set will be 15 points (for female category) each using the current international badminton 21-point scoring system. Male category will be 11 points each. Deuce will be 2 additional points.
   
5. 1st, 2nd, 3rd placing of the teams will be based on the number of wins against other teams. If the no. of wins is tied, ranking will subsequently be based on the net number of points won minus points lost for all the sets played against all other teams. Therefore, every point is potentially important.

Prizes (I kept this at the bottom so ppl will read through all the boring stuff on top)

1. Prizes will be sports-related products like badminton bags, sports T-shirts, shoe bags, wrist bands, strings, water bottles, etc. and brought with consideration to budget, general preferences and availability.
2. Feel free to approach me at any BITE sessions if you have any suggestions on the prizes.
   

Others matters

1. Where there are disputes, the organiser will have final say.
2. There may be last min changes to the format of the MBT depending on various factors (e.g. more participants means less points per set to speed up the games).
3. Any clarifications required, please post to my email Rubbish1981@gmail.com.
